Cookies Explained

A cookie is a small piece of data a website stores in your browser and reads back on a later request. It is how sites remember anything at all between page loads. Where this policy says ‘cookies’ it also means comparable technologies: local storage, web beacons, pixels and device identifiers.

To manage what is stored: use your browser’s privacy or site-data settings to block or clear cookies, and use the consent banner where one is shown. We honour both Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control. Analytics and advertising cookies can be refused with no loss of function; essential cookies cannot be refused without breaking the site.

Essential cookies keep the site functioning — security, load balancing, and remembering your cookie choice itself. These cannot be switched off without breaking the site. Analytics cookies, where an analytics provider is in use, measure traffic in aggregate so we can see which pages are read. Advertising cookies, where advertising is served, may be set by ad partners to limit repetition and to measure or personalise ads.

We do not control cookies placed by outside vendors such as analytics providers and ad networks; each is subject to its own privacy policy. You can opt out of many of them collectively through the DAA, the NAI, or Your Online Choices.
